Gitte Spinder is a Dutch visual and interdisciplinary artist, known for immersive, multidimensional works that merge light, water, nature and the human form. She studied Audiovisual Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.

Her work explores identity, perception, and the tension between what is revealed and what remains concealed. Navigating between reality and dream, abstraction and figuration, sensuality and mysticism, she invites audiences into environments where boundaries dissolve and new ways of seeing emerge.

Water is central in her work: a conductor of feminine energy and a force that connects everything on her canvas, both physically and emotionally. Its surface plays a vital role, acting both as a turbulent threshold between the conscious and the subconscious and as a refractive mirror where light itself turns liquid.

The human body lies at the center of her practice, often portrayed in states of ecstasy and transformation, intertwined with organic elements such as water. She refers to these figures as forces, capturing both hidden emotions and raw energy.

Gitte’s work reflects an existential search for essence while at the same time celebrating freedom, sensuality, and our elemental connection with nature.

Her process combines the analog and the digital. Using multiple projectors, she creates layered light patterns and casts them onto models during staged ceremonies. These muses are essential to the work, not simply participants but co-creators in a merging of energies. The performances are captured on camera without digital manipulation, later becoming limited-edition photo prints or immersive live projections. This distinctive approach gives her work its layered, dreamlike quality, evoking a sense of infinity, fluidity, and elusive beauty, like visions rising from the depths.

Her art has been presented worldwide, including at  Scorpios Bodrum, Mexico City Art Week, and Artbox NYC, and she has received recognition such as the Museumnacht Amsterdam Award.

A ritual of merging all elements of light, water, air, and earth, balanced to create space for magic within a unified work.

Co-Creation as Art

Collaboration is at the heart of Gitte’s creative process. She thrives on co-creating immersive experiences with musicians, performers, and designers – weaving light, image, and presence into living works of art.

Wumanas is a multi-disciplinary women’s collective where Gitte Spinder, as one of the initiators, extends her co-creative ethos into a global platform. Dedicated to representing and promoting womxn artists worldwide, Wumanas is rooted in values of inclusion, sorority, and a non-competitive spirit. Through this platform, Gitte collaborates with designers, producers, entrepreneurs, ritualists, writers, visual artists, performers, healers, and musicians to create immersive experiences for conscious gatherings, festival stages, and holistic programs. Together they curate artistic line-ups and journeys that weave ancestral traditions with contemporary expression, embodying Gitte’s vision of art as both communal and transformative.

Ruigoord, an artist village on the city’s edge and the oldest free zone in the Netherlands, is where Gitte Spinder creates. Rooted in a strong tradition of collaboration, the Ruigoorders co-organize gatherings where music, poetry, art, nature, magic, and ritual meet.
